Top Carpooling and Ridesharing Apps on iOS in South Africa: Q4 2024

In the fourth quarter of 2024, the performance of carpooling and ridesharing apps on iOS in South Africa showcased a variety of trends in downloads and active user engagement. Here, we look at the top five apps, providing insights based on data from Sensor Tower.

Bolt: Request a Ride saw fluctuations in weekly downloads, starting with around 11.9K at the end of September, dipping to 8.3K mid-October, and peaking at approximately 15.5K in early December. Active users increased from about 530K to a high of 627K by late November, before settling at 486K by the end of December.

Uber - Request a ride experienced a steady rise in downloads, moving from 8.8K in late September to a peak of 11.3K in early December. Active users also showed an increase, starting at 378K and reaching a high of 447K in late November, before falling to 356K by the end of the quarter.

inDrive. Save on city rides had a more modest download performance, beginning with 6.4K in late September and peaking at 6.7K in early December. Active users grew steadily, starting at 61K and reaching a peak of 76K in early December.

Wanatu Klient Toep displayed a significant increase in downloads, beginning with just 5 in early October and climbing to over 2.7K by late November. However, active user data was not available for this app.

Uber - Driver: Drive & Deliver maintained a steady download rate, starting at 871 and peaking at 1.1K in early December. Active users remained relatively stable throughout the quarter, fluctuating around 17K.
